Why is it necessary for high BP patients to do anulom vilom after Kapalbhati?

Can high BP patients do Kapalbhati?

High BP patients can do Kapalbhati. But it is necessary to do it in the right way. Kapalbhati is not a pranayama, but a cleansing exercise. It is done before starting pranayama. This is done so that if any kind of garbage, mucus or phlegm has accumulated in our nose, throat, then it comes out. At the same time, it brightens our kapal (forehead). Doing Kapalbhati does not cause wrinkles on the skin quickly. Kapalbhati is done at the beginning of any pranayama before starting it. Yoga expert Bholi Parihar has given two methods of doing Kapalbhati. Along with this, it has also been told which method should be done by which people.

Method one of doing Kapalbhati:-

  • With both your legs folded, sit in the position of Sukhasana
  • Take 2-3 normal breaths keeping both the hands in Gyan Mudra and keep the eyes closed, exhale with a jerk and pull the abdominal muscles inwards.
  • People who have the problem of high BP. While not doing it like this, take the breath out of each nostril.

Instructions for high BP patients:-

  • While doing Kapalbhati method, high BP patients should note that while doing Kapalbhati, close the straight side nose with your right hand and take 2-3 long deep breaths from the left side. Which will help in managing if your BP is below or above. Now while taking a long deep breath, you have to exhale through the ceiling.
  • People who have the problem of high BP, do not do it for a long time, 10-15 times is enough.

Method 2 of doing Kapalbhati

  • People who have the problem of high BP, must do the following breathing exercises before starting pranayama.
  • Sit down with both your legs folded normally, both hands will remain on the knees.
  • Keep the waist, neck straight and close the eyes.
  • Breathe through the nose 15-20 times and throw it out through the mouth.
  • This will activate your parasynthetic nervous system. Which will act as cooling in the body.
  • Close the right nostril with your right thumb. Take a long deep breath while inhaling from the opposite side and exhale from the same side.
  • After that close your left nostril and inhale from right and exhale from right.
  • You have to do this 20-25 times in a row.
  • This exercise is very beneficial in managing your BP. After all these cleansing exercises, you can start pranayama.

High BP patients should do this anulom-vilom:-

Anulom Vilom is also called Nadi Shodhana Pranayama. Following is the correct method of doing this.

  • Bend both the knees and sit in Sukhasana.
  • Keep your opposite hand in Gyan Mudra.
  • Close your eyes and take 15-20 normal breaths. Keeping all your attention on your breath, prepare your mind and body for pranayama.
  • Close the right nostril while lifting the right hand. Keep in mind that all your weight should be equal on both the hips. Do not tilt any one side too much.
  • Breathe in through your left nostril and exhale completely. Now start Anulom Antonym.
  • Now once again breathing in through the left nose and exhaling from the right. Your left nostril will remain closed during this time. Now exhale from the right and release it on the left.
  • Keep in mind that while doing Anulom Antonym, the sound of your breath should not come too much. Do this with care and caution.
  • Repeat Anulom Vilom 10-15 times and then take rest.
